"What if Google had a platform to streamline hiring?"

Designing an enterprise based solution for businesses to streamline the hiring process

This project was conducted under the guidance of Tanmay Awasti (Teaching faculty, School of Design and Innovation, RVU)

The current hiring process often suffers from inefficiencies and confusion due to manual tasks and decentralized communication, resulting in delays and misalignment between employers and candidates.

The scope of this project is limited to solving for the team manager when a vacancy arises.

B2b| UX Research | Prototyping | Information Architecture

Project : Academic

Role : Student at RVU M.Des Program

Skills : Research,Prototyping, Content curation and presentation design

Duration : 3 weeks

Let us first set a context...

We conducted primary and secondary research

Primary Research:
image 21.png

We collected data and and created:

  • A barebone structure of the process

  • Interview questions

Using these, we had an open dialogue with two end users.

Secondary Research:

We studied the top competitors in the market:

We:

  • Tracked the flow

  • Found the gap in each product

  • Compared the features

We conducted interviews with three end users:

We then mapped out flows for the two user groups we spoke to:

We did a feature comparison of the competitors to understand the gap

Our Design Goal:

The scope of this 3- week project is limited to solving for the team manager when a vacancy arises.

Our solution focus on allowing the user to efficiently track, manage and participate as required during hiring.

Task flow for a team manager who wants to hire

We now used this content, to create cards to conduct card sorting

gh9.png

We conducted card sorting with 3 hiring managers and 1 HR

We added 3 new cards and removed one based on user feedback.

We started noticing patterns, to get a better understanding we created Venn diagrams for each user's card sort:

We then created a conceptual organizational model to use to further create an initial Information Architecture

Our core idea behind the design

To make the system flexible and scalable we broke down what a job would consist of :

We created low fidelity wireframes of the key screens and used it to start conversations with the end users

Since our concept was to propose a solution for Google, we used the Google material kit for the interface design.

To create our designs , we started working iteratively:

Our key evolutions:

1.Cards

2.Calendar and conversations

We tried different positions of access for the calendar and conversations to see which fit best

3.Dashboard- Overview of the Job

4.Dashboard- Dashboard-Tasks

5.Dashboard- Candidates

6.Modals for focused taskflows

7.Details

We added several screens to detail out the prototype:

Our biggest hurdle...

We tackled this by breaking the flow:

Future Scope:

  • To design for the other stakeholders involved

  • To detail out how a task is completed

  • To include features that would strengthen the system and keep it free from manipulation, for example adding task history

  • To try and test the design for a mobile experience
